Travellers planning to visit Kairos need not be daunted by the pending drought across the Western Cape.
Groundwater flow in Hout Bay is complex. Many springs fed from the surrounding mountains exist during winter time along the margins of the Disa River floodplain. Water quality changes rapidly over short distances and in many instances the water is both iron-rich and sulphurous.
Fortunately, at Kairos, some springs/ underground streams provide good-quality water which is easily reached with a shallow well-point. The well-point we use has consistently provided water since we moved here in 2001. We manage the use of this water carefully.
We have been seeking sustainable ways to resourcefully combat the shortage of water whilst ensuring we minimise our use of the City’s invaluable potable water supply.
The result, we think, offers an attractive and innovative blend of city living close to nature.
Our newly installed solar showers offer travellers a novel opportunity to refresh and revitalise beneath the blue sky of Cape Town and enjoy listening to the sunbirds and white eyes as they fly by.
Simple to use, the showers provide lots of lovely hot water and a view second to none – we think you’ll never want to shower indoors ever again!
